West Nyack  NY -  A ribbon cutting took place today on the first new classrooms in decades built at Rockland BOCES.  These light filled spaces are already making an impact on the students and teachers at this school for children with special needs.

Michael Shilale Architects (MSA), an expert in educational spaces and environments for individuals with special needs, was a perfect match for this project.  Utilizing strategies to create better early childhood classrooms, such as direct connections to the exterior, increased daylight and views, and improved ventilation and controls -  these spaces are the envy of every teacher.

An innovative 'floorless' modular technique was utilized offering many advantages.  It allowed a connection to the existing building and the exterior without stairs and ramps.  It also minimized the construction time on site, reducing the impact to the existing program.  To watch a cool time lapse video of the construction - click here.

Building geometry, overhangs, minimizing east and west glazing, as well as individuals controls and zoning will improve indoor comfort and save energy.
